Personal Information

Shane Cartier is an upcoming star in the sport of chuckwagon racing. He competed at his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby in 2007 where he won the Orville Strandquist Award as the Calgary Stampede’s top rookie driver. 2008 saw Shane post 6 top tens runs including 1 run that cracked the top 5 before an injury left him unable to drive the last part of the season. A tenth place finish at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Derby in Lethbridge was his best of the year. 2006 was Shane’s best year on the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour placing 18th in the world standings and qualified for his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby. He was runner-up for the Badlands Dinosaur Derby in Drumheller in his rookie season in 2004. A product of the pony chuckwagon circuit, Shane drove pony chuckwagons for 18 years winning 15 show championships, most notably the 2000 Ponoka Stampede Pony Chuckwagon Championship. A second-generation chuckwagon man, his father Leo was a pony driver for many years who always desired to drive the big wagons. This inspired Shane to make the move to the big wagons in 2004. A true horseman, Shane raises and trains ponies and quarter horses on his Running Bar C Ranch. He works as a feedlot pen rider in the off-season and enjoys team roping. Shane has a daughter Shelby and makes his home in Vegreville, Alberta.
